ALCOHOL REHAB CENTER

Alcohol rehab center are three words that most alcoholics don't want to hear, but it may just be that an alcohol rehab center is exactly what is going to save the life of this alcoholic. Alcohol rehab center is a phrase that means many things. Alcohol rehab center means hope and freedom. It means that once an alcoholic is admitted to an alcohol rehab center they might find a chance to become sober and stay that way. Many people each year are admitted to an alcohol rehab center. Not everyone admitted to an alcohol rehab center stays sober. It is up to the alcoholic and how willing they are at getting sober.
In the early part of last century alcoholism was looked down upon. People thought it was evil to drink too much. Christians read in the bible that it was a sin. But about sixty years ago doctors and psychoanalysts realized something different. They realized that it wasn't a moral deficiency. They realized that the people couldn't just stop like everyone was asking them to do; they realized that alcoholism was a disease. Alcoholism had to be treated medically. That is where the role of an alcohol rehab center took shape. Before this realization alcoholics were subjected to horrific things. Some were locked away in asylums never to see the light of day again. Others had lobotomies performed on their brains, in hopes that by taking out a small part of the brain the alcoholic would stop craving alcohol.
None of these things worked. It wasn't until alcoholics got together and started working with each other those things got better. They realized that in an alcohol rehab center they could attend groups and talk their problems out. In groups is where they found power. In the first alcohol rehab center people got sober and once released joined AA and stayed sober for years. The destitute alcoholic was no longer destitute. If you are reading this because you or someone you know has a problem drinking, then know that there is hope. Alcoholics no longer have to suffer; their families can live happily after all.
The road to recovery is not easy. It is easier than dying drunk, though. Every year many people die drunk. They perish due to liver failure, suicide, or the most horrific, drunk driving. The most disturbing part about drunk driving is that the innocent die as well.
Many teens are killed each year by drunk driving. Don't let this happen to you. If you need help than we are here for you. We are an alcohol rehab center. Our name is Spencer Recovery Center. For an individual with alcohol dependency issues, seeking help is the first positive step on what is for some a very long road to recovery. An alcohol rehab center will be able to provide first point of contact guidance to a person or their family and friends on how to deal with the dependency. An alcohol rehab center will be staffed by medical and other professionals with a great deal of experience in the treatment of alcohol dependency and the wide variety of behavioral issues that it causes, including denial of the condition by the person involved.
You will find guidance and counseling available at an alcohol rehab center not only for the person afflicted, but also their family and friends who are associated and affected by the alcohol dependency. Coming to terms with the illness and that it is a condition that requires intervention, often medical intervention, is something that many have serious problems coming to terms with, both patient and family. The alcohol rehab center will be able to help answer your questions and deal with the issues that are raised by alcohol dependency as well as providing an assessment of the severity of the condition and a treatment regime. Upon being admitted to the alcohol rehab center, the first step in the treatment process will be detoxification, known usually as detox. This is the process by which the body of the patient is cleansed and purified of alcohol. Most patients need to undergo detox and the manner in which an alcohol rehab center will undertake this first initial stage depends on the history of drinking, past treatment methods used and the severity of the alcohol dependency presented.

For mild to moderate cases of alcohol dependency, and who otherwise are in good health, social detox is usually employed. This does not require medical intervention or the use of medication, but it should still be medically supervised while being undergone. Social detox usually requires a patient to be weaned off alcohol by a combination of therapy, exercise and good nutrition which deals with both body and mind. Patients are helped to understand the nature of the compulsion that drives them to use alcohol and accept the need for treatment. Patients must be in strong enough health to withstand the effects of alcohol withdrawal, and this must be medically monitored as the health of the patient may be compromised.

Medical intervention may be deemed appropriate by the alcohol rehab center, and in this instance close medical supervision must be provided. Medical detox is used where the level of dependency is high, or otherwise the health of the patient cannot stand the effects of withdrawal without medical help or indeed the patient suffers from another condition such as drug or substance abuse. Typically, benzodiazepine is used to induce a sedated state after an initial assessment to establish a baseline dose for the patient. Once this state has been achieved, the medication is gradually reduced over a period of three to ten days in order to control the effects of alcohol withdrawal.

Medical detoxification must never be attempted without close medical supervision, so you should always check with the alcohol rehab center that they have the medical staff to oversee this process. The effect of alcohol withdrawal on the severely dependent patient can be traumatic and dangerous resulting in serious damage to health and in extreme cases, death. Typically, detox is carried out on a residential or inpatient basis, very often within a hospital or specialist unit that a medical facility has contracted out the work too. It is important to understand that detoxification is not of itself a cure for alcohol dependency. It is merely the first initial stage of treatment by an alcohol rehab center.

After detoxification, an alcohol rehab center will generally deliver a range of combinative treatments to a patient depending upon the severity of the addiction, treatment history, and how well the individual patient responds to treatment. Therapy plays a large part in the rehabilitation of the patient in order to explore, understand and develop life skills to deal with the root cause of alcohol dependency. It is likely to lead to a relapse of the patient, if upon being discharged from an alcohol rehab center they are ill equipped to deal with the environment that led them to alcohol use and dependency to begin with.

Individual therapy is used to uncover the root causes of dependency and also to improve and embed self awareness of the nature of the addictive behavior that drives the urge to use alcohol. Group therapy is used to help remove the sense of isolation that a patient usually experiences and the periods of feeling low during treatment at the alcohol rehab center can often be assuaged by other patients providing support drawn from their own experience. An alcohol rehab center will also use family therapy to help rekindle and repair familial ties that have been damaged or broken as a result of alcohol dependency and the behavioral issues that may have arisen prior to seeking treatment. There is also another purpose to family therapy, and that is when a patient is discharged from an alcohol rehab center, it helps greatly improve the chance of long term sobriety if the patient has a support network of people who have an understanding of what is actually happening. Upon being discharged from an alcohol rehab center, the patient may still require regular follow up sessions as an outpatient, or indeed need a place where support and assistance is available should the compulsion to use alcohol become uncontrollable or indeed, in the event of a relapse. An alcohol rehab center provides these services to those with alcohol dependency issues and their families and acts as a center for guidance, counseling, social, psychiatric and medical service provision for those dealing with alcohol addiction and those people connected to the patients who are affected by their behavioral problems that form part of the addiction.
